Italy Reaches 25GW Of Installed Solar Capacity
Mar 03, 2023
According to the latest statistics released by the Italian solar association Italia Solare, the cumulative installed PV capacity in Italy reached 25,048 MW at the end of December, spread over 122,045 installations. The largest part of this capacity is PV systems, ranging in size from 200 kW to 1 MW, accounting for 8,270 MW or 33% of the total. The second largest part are installations with outputs ranging from 20 kW to 200 kW, with a share of 5,057 MW or 20% of the total.
Solar arrays with a capacity of less than 12 kW accounted for 4,949 MW or 20 per cent of the total, followed by systems with a capacity of 1 MW to 10 MW, with a 16 per cent share or 3,942 MW. Italia Solare said that the share of PV plants with a capacity of more than 10 MW was 1,479 MW or 6 per cent of the total. At the end of December, PV systems with a capacity between 12 and 20 kW amounted to 1,351 MW, or around 5% of the total.

Size of the photovoltaic industry by region in Italy
The regions with the largest share of total new installations were Lombardy (3,149 MW), Puglia (3,063 MW), Emilia Romagna (2,512 MW) and Veneto (2,484 MW).
The residential sector or PV systems below 12kW continued to be the biggest market driver last year, with around 1,103MW of new capacity installed, followed by large plants above 10MW, with 289MW of installed capacity, said talia Solare.
Italia Solare president Paolo Rocco Viscontini said 2023 is likely to double from 2023 and further double in 2024, so we are talking about 2GW, 4GW and 8GW Rome Forum.
